SAFETY MANAGEMENT

The project works were carried out on a live TAFE college campus. It was critical that the works did not unduly interrupt educational and recreational activities.

Safe work method statements were developed for all site activities including the high-risk construction tasks such as excavator operations. Before excavation took place a Dial Before You Dig search and on-site Service Scans took place to check the area for concealed electrical, gas and communication services.

As the safety and welfare of the college students and staff was paramount, all Murphy’s personnel had completed NSW Working with Children Check clearances as a precautionary measure.

Fencing and signage was used to secure the working area and protect the public.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

The works involved removing the earth behind the walls to allow reconstruction. An area of the TAFE car park was allocated to the project for temporary storage of the spoil. Geotech fabric was used to protect nearby storm drains. The removed soil was covered and protected using tarpaulins and Geotech fabric to contain the stockpile. Tree trimming was performed using a specialist qualified trade arborist.

Benefits offered to Client during Project Works;

  • TAFE operations continued throughout the works
  • Minimal space in the car park taken for material stockpiling
  • Layout of site allowed traffic to flow around the work areas without disturbance
  • Client liason meetings throughout the project
  • No safety or environmental incidents during the works
